I love New York City!

NEW YORK - is one of my favourite cities in the world, filled with lots of good food, shopping, recreational activities, etc. Recently, I took Singapore Airlines First Class to visit some friends and family members. I checked in my luggage at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 3, Gate 1, which is reserved for the First Class ticket holders. Then went through the VIP departure gate, one lane gate especially designed just for First Class ticket holders, just behind their check in lounge. I went to The Private Room to have some fruits and latte before I went onto the plane. Singapore Airlines First Class food and service is always extraordinarily amazing. The flight there was quite long, but I was entertained by the countless movies that they have on board the plane. Flying First Class is always a memorable experience with Singapore airlines!

The moment I landed, I hopped onto the hotel transfer Mercedes to The Mandarin Oriental Hotel located at 80 Columbus Circle. It is a prime location, located near all the shopping street, facing The Central Park. It has a perfect view of both the busy city and the big famous Central Park of New York City. The suite was pretty good but it was not as big as The St. Regis Hotel Suite at San Francisco (that I recently stayed at), but I guess, space cost a lot more in a prime district area of Columbus Circle in New York City~
Mandarin Oriental Hotel New York City: http://www.mandarinoriental.com/newyork/

The suite room cost approximately USD$1545 - USD$1609 a night on average. There are quite a few different types of suites, prices depends on peak seasons too.

While staying there, I decided to try out their SPA facilities. Their Mandarin Oriental Spa was truly quite an amazing experience! The decoration and ambience inside is very Zen and serene. The jacuzzi pool, steam room, lounge are all pretty big. The locker room was filled with towels, lockers, mirrors, etc. Imagine going to a GYM's shared wash/locker room, but this is better designed, smells much nicer and looks super grand. The massage there cost around US$350 for a 1 hour full body massage.

TRUMP TOWER - After feeling re-energized and recovering well from my Jet Lag, I decided to drop by Trump Tower, to visit my close friends, Luca (Trump Bartender) and Richard Lorenzen. He's the CEO of Fifth Avenue Brands, a New York based public relations and digital media firm. As an active media personality in issues on business, economics and politics, Richard has been seen in Forbes, Fox Business, CBS magazines and others. He is young, very successful and gorgeous. Luca was the one who introduced Richard to me, about 3 years ago. Whenever I fly to New York, I would make it a point to have a drink with him at our usual place - Trump Tower, by Donald Trump, owners of the TV Series - The Apprentice, famous for their tagline, "YOU ARE FIRED!". Luca is really sweet, she always offers me complimentary popcorns when I'm at Trump Tower - YES! I Love Popcorns!

I also met my cousins, K and C, who brought me to Woodbury Common Premium Outlets. This place is excellent for shopping especially with the 220 stores that offer premium savings for brands such as Burberry, YSL, Dior, Gucci etc. I usually purchase quite a few pairs of shoes during each visit. I also bought several dresses from BEBE. Website at http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7

Woodbury Common Premium Outlets

Woodbury is located around 2 hours drive away from New York City. On the way there, we felt a little hungry, so we stopped by this Pumpkin Patch Market Place. It has huge pumpkins like in a Halloween cartoon! I like eating sweet pumpkins too! So yummy! All you need to do is just boil them without adding any oil, salt or pepper as the pumpkins taste naturally sweet and delicious!

Woodbury's car park space is huge. You would need to spend at least 5 hours there before you can complete walking into every single boutique. The land area is huge! Hence, you are advised to spend your entire day there. Please go there in the morning, if you plan to do some serious shopping! There's a coupon book, that you should pick up at the information counter. There are special extra discounts in that book.

You may choose to book a bus ticket for your transfer from New York City to Woodbury, at US$40 a person for a round trip! Woodbury Bus Services from New York City: http://www.woodburybus.com/

Kenka Japanese Restaurant
25 Saint Marks Place
New YorkNY 10003Neighbourhood: East Village

My cousins brought me to Kenka Restaurant to have dinner the following day. The food there was pretty special. They served all the weird intestines and liver, but thankfully they serve normal food too. This place is full of customers and we had to wait for about 30 minutes before we managed to get a table. The food menu is really fun and interesting. At the end of the meal, we each received a cotton candy stick and to experience making our very own cotton candy for dessert.

Karaoke Restaurant & Bar Japas 38

(between 5th Ave & Madison Ave)
New YorkNY 10016
Neighbourhood: Midtown East

After dinner, we went to sing our hearts out at a karaoke bar~ It has an open bar concept, whereby the whole place can hear you sing. It was fun! We made quite a few new friends. Drinks there were reasonably cheap. The people there are fun and out going! Nice place to make new friends!

The Setai Hotel by The Capella Group
Fifth Avenue New York City

The next few nights, I stayed at The Setai Hotel at Fifth Avenue New York City. This hotel is by the Capella Group. This hotel suite is slightly more spacious and bigger than the Mandarin Oriental Hotel at Columbus Circle. It is located near all those shops like Guess, BEBE, Forever 21, etc. I really like this hotel. It is very spacious! There's a restaurant and bar downstairs. The cocktails at the bar is very well mixed! Refreshing and tasty!

The Setai Hotel Room Rates

I stayed in the City One Bedroom Suite. That is approximately USD$1185/night. That is around SGD$1450/night. But it is really pretty!! And super comfortable! Another thing that I loved about this room is that the mini bar is completely complimentary. Of course they don't serve food or alcohol on their mini bar, but, there's at least 20 cans of different soft drinks and bottles of water.

So while waiting for my cousin, who was an hour late!! I helped myself to some King George V whisky that was purchased at the airport duty free DFS and I grilled myself some Chicken Kebab. I love The Setai's kitchen! Amazing.. Okay, fine, I got the Chicken Kebab from those street stalls downstairs my Hotel, they are delicious! You will see a super long queue of people in their tie and suits lining up for this delicious stick of Chicken~ I reheated using the oven in the kitchen, just to make sure, I've killed all the street food bacteria from it. I don't want to have a tummy ache.

For the whisky lovers out there, you would appreciate this. You would know that whiskey have different blends and grade. Blue Label is known to most people as the highest grade for Johnie Walker. But this particular Johnnie Walker King George V is much more premium.

One bottle of Johnnie Walker King George V cost approximately, SGD$900. This is the kind of whisky whereby you appreciate it with only whisky lovers, if not, it is just a waste~ It is made of the rarest and finest blend from Cardhu, Lochnager and Port Ellen. It has a really nutty finish, absolutely tasty!

When my cousin, K finally arrived (1hour late!) at my hotel suite, I showed her around and took lots of photos! There's a living room, a kitchen with full facilities  including pots and pans for you to cook and even an oven and microwave. It also have a bar top counter, facing the living room. The wash room is huge with a bath tub facing the bedroom, and a walk in closet that can fit 10 people in. I loved The Setai Hotel, after all, its by the Capella Group. I would definitely stay there again.
Verdict: I prefer The Setai Hotel Suite over the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Suite.

VERO Restaurant & Wine Bar (Uptown)
1483 2nd Ave (between 77th St & 78th St)
New York, NY 10021
(212) 452-3354

After we were done fooling around in the suite, we brought our madness down to the hotel lobby. We took photos with the good looking bell boys and front desk staff. Then we left for family dinner! They brought me to this place called VERO. It looks like a bar, yet they serve proper food. The table seatings were the high bar top kind of seats. They are famous for their Wine Collection and their Sangrias
VERO New York City: http://www.veronyc.com/

Astoria
Hell Gate Bridge

The next day, my cousins brought me to Astoria (their home town)~ That is only 10 minutes away from Manhattan. Its is only a bridge drive away. So they showed me Hell Gate Bridge, this bridge connects Manhattan and Astoria. Interesting name right? I took a photo with it.

My relatives also brought me to this cosy Spanish Restaurant in Astoria. The atmosphere of Astoria is totally different from the busy city of New York City Manhattan. It is a more relaxed setting where many people were sun bathing while they dined alfresco style. Everyone was relaxed and nobody look like they were rushing off to their next meeting unlike in New York city. I think Astoria is an amazing place to live!

Experiencing Gold Coast Surfers Paradise via FlyScoot (Direct Flight).

Recently, I flew to Gold Coast via Scoot! It was my first time flying with SCOOT - a budget airline that is a subsidiary company from Singapore Airlines. I was truly amazed with how spacious their seats were. The Scoot Economy seats have the SAME LEG ROOM as Singapore Airlines Economy seats. It was decent and comfortable especially for the good price we paid. Overall, it was a really good deal!

The differences between SCOOT Economy and Singapore Airlines Economy Class

Scoot Economy: No CMIV (Television), but it is replaced with an IPAD Tablet - Extra Cost: SGD$20 It is filled with around 10 Hollywood English movies, and another 10 International language movies, around 5 kiddy games. If you have your own IPAD, you may tap into their scoot movies at SGD$15.

Scoot Economy: You would need to purchase your "Food" and "Check In Luggage" preferences. Food is charged at SGD$15 and a "15KGs Check In Luggage" is charged at SGD$30 - SGD$35 each. If you choose not to purchase your meal together with your ticket, you may do so, on board itself. There is a food and beverage Menu, whereby the food and drinks are sold at quite a reasonable price. They even sell Häagen-Dazs ice cream at SDG$6 too!
FlyScoot: http://www.flyscoot.com/index.php/en/

I spoke to the cabin crew on board that day and found out that they do earn a commission from selling the food and drinks, the movie tablet, their wireless, etc.  That's interesting!!!

Scoot Business Class: I realized that their seats, did not have much difference from their economy seats. But to "Last Minute" Upgrade to Scoot Business Class, it cost around SGD$150 or AUD$99 more. I personally feel that Scoot Business Class is not worth the money as the Economy class seats are pretty good already.

Outriggers Hotel Surfers Paradise

I stayed at Outriggers Hotel at Surfers Paradise in Gold Coast. It was a 4 Stars Hotel, costing me around AUD$150 a night on average. The room have 2 Queen Size beds, it was really spacious. Every room has a balcony that is facing the swimming pool. I can see the beach front on the left side of the balcony. It is a pretty good hotel. The only thing was that the Concierge staff service could be improved as they usually leave the front counter unattended.

Australian Shooting Academy
Pistol Shooting

On the first day, I was all excited! I walked down towards the Entertainment Area, that was only 10 minutes walk from my hotel. There's bowling, shopping, restaurants, pistol shooting, surfing, skate boarding, vintage photography, etc. I decided to try pistol shooting! I have never held a real gun filled with real metal bullets in my hands before. I played Competitive Counterstrike, when I was younger, and I loved it! So Pistol Shooting has always been on my "To-Do-Check List"

This is the cost of shooting. It isn't cheap. But I had to try it! I would say, I did pretty well as a first timer. I managed to hit all my 25 bullets onto the piece of paper. Not too shabby! And I had 9 bullets within the Inner Bold Circle. Don't you think I can aim and shoot pretty well???

OUTBACK Horse Performance
3 Course Dinner (free flow of wine/beer)

Outback Horse Performance - the whole concept is really pretty cool. When you walk into the place, you would need to hand them your online ticket. Next, they would issue you a coloured hat. There were 2 teams either the red or the yellow team. They have pre-dinner drinks served at the bar and a cow boy singing to the countryside tunes. This is also the time, whereby we would be able to take photos with their horses and sheep dogs.

After about 30 minutes, they led us into their Main Dinner Hall. There were rows and rows of seats circling the performance in the middle. The seatings were really cool. Imagine the Singapore Indoor Stadium concept, its rows and rows of seats of different levels, all surrounding the middle stage. Dinner was a 3 course meal, an appetizer, a BEEF Steak main dish, and a creamy mousse desert. The beef was cooked at its best - Medium Rare. The show was about the history of Phar Lap - Australian's most outstanding horse, which have won many awards and made Australians proud. Their horse stunts was so-so. Overall, it was an okay experience. Not that impressed by the show, slightly draggy, not recommended for the young ones, might be too historical and boring for them.

Surfers Paradise Beach Front

The next day, I walked around the beach, collecting sea shells, enjoying the sunlight and cold breeze. It was a little chilly, despite the heat from the sun. It was summer, but I still felt a little cold. The sand literally glitters like GOLD when the sunlight shines onto it, no wonder, they named it Gold Coast. There was a sand sculpture competition going on that day, of which, most of the competitors, sculpted animals. The food in Australia, generally cost quite a bit. But I managed to find this beach front restaurant that have a buffet breakfast at AUD$14++. They served the usual English Breakfast and they have Hot Chocolate, Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice, etc.

The next day was Valentine's Day! I went to check out their super markets. The place was filled with colourful and lovely cupcakes! I realised that Australia's food is really expensive. An apple there cost at least twice the amount we get in Singapore.

Dracula's Cabaret & Human Zoo
3 Course Dinner + Show
(This is a SUPER MUST-GO)

In the night, I went to Dracula's House. It was the best dinner experience I ever had. When you enter the gate, you would be welcomed by Vampires and Draculas. They would then lead you into a cocktail bar where the place was filled with skeletons and really scary looking people! The bar served really artistic and bloody looking smoking cocktails. Next, we took a scary train ride to the main dining hall. The train ride, is a short 1 minute thrill ride through a scary trail. It cost AUD$88 for each person. Interesting way to spend the night!

Very interesting food were served for dinner. My favourite was their dessert, its was a chocolate COFFIN. All the waiters and waitresses were also dressed as Vampires and Draculas. They were super fun, talkative and scary all at the same time especially when they took our dinner order. Service was excellently entertaining and frightening! We had a choice of main dish - Chicken, Beef or Lamb

The show was very entertaining! They had rock hard metal music playing, while they performed all the funny sex jokes and dance acts. It was seriously the best night I've had in months. Amazing! At the end of the dinner and main stage performance, the band moved to join the bar and we had drinks and hung out with the actors. Before leaving, we purchased all their scary looking gifts from their souvenir store. I bought some skeleton wine cups and some eye balls that glows when it rolls around the floor.

Water Sports
Jet Ski + Jet Boat

Daddy and I coming back.. On the Jet Ski~

I love speed. I love fast cars. I love Jet Skiing! I decided to go jet skiing. It was way better than jet skiing in Singapore, Malaysia, Bangkok, etc. Imagine speeding on the jet ski non-stop at 70km/h from Singapore Changi to Singapore Jurong, then make a U-turn back to Changi. It cost around AUD$160 for a 45 minutes Jet Ski Ride

I did the jet boat ride the next day, it was extremely thrilling too! It was an amazing experience. I loved every second of it~ It was worth every single cent! There are a lot of different places that provides these water sports. It is a must do if you go to Surfers Paradise. I love Gold Coast. I will definitely go back there, for a week, to learn how to surf and skate board!

NEW BAR: JIU ZHUANG @ DEMPSEY HILL

New Bar Opening at Dempsey Hill
JIU ZHUANG

JIU ZHUANG at Dempsey - I love Dempsey and I enjoy chilling at Dempsey. It is like my playground. Living close to Dempsey, is the best~ I love that the 3 places that I go on a daily basis (Home sweet home, SaraShantelle Head Office and Dempsey) are all only 5 minutes away drive from each other. I will be blogging a lot about Dempsey, as I am there almost everyday. I enjoy exploring all the different hidden places, food and beverage, wine list, and even their customer service.

JIU ZHUANG - A beautiful restaurant and whisky bar modelled after wealthy residences of Old Shanghai. The place is dimly lit and is beautifully decorated with wooded antiques, Chinese Character paintings and Chinese silk lanterns.
The Interior Design

Their staff there are all very friendly. Its nice to relax there as its almost hidden from the rest of dempsey. Dempsey would always been the place that I love most, apart from home. Its serenity, helps me to take my mind away from work. A beautiful bar overall to indulge in a range of specialty beverages, vintage wines and Japanese sakes :)

They also serve uniquely delicious dim sum so do try their Jiu Zhuang Xiao Long Bao which has whisky infused in the dumplings.

How to Get to JIU ZHUANG?

- It is near CMPB  Contemporary Melting Pot & Bar (My Favourite Dinner Place).
- Walk towards CMPB, then walk to the back of CMPB, then turn right.
