EVENTS - GIN 1495 Launch at The Bar and Billiard Room, Raffles Hotel Singapore

GIN 1495
Exclusive Launch Event
Venue: The Bar and Billiard Room, Raffles Hotel Singapore

GIN 1495 Launch Event @ Raffles Hotel Singapore - Special thanks to Dato' Elaine Teh for inviting both my sister Lora Christelle Lim and myself to attend this exclusive launch of GIN 1495. Both of us had a wonderful time learning more about GIN 1495, its rich history and incredible journey. We also had the opportunity to enjoy the unique and marvelous taste of GIN 1495 mixed with some fresh mint leaves, green grapes, lemon slices and cinnamon sticks which was interesting!

EWG Spirits & Wine, the world’s leading specialists in the creation, production and distribution of word class, grape based spirits, announces its discovery of one of the oldest recorded gin recipes. Using a grape based spirit as its foundation; the recipe dates back to 1495 and is an important record in the evolution of gin from a medicinal product to a recreational spirit.

EWG, the creators of one of the leading super-premium gins, G’Vine Gin, has handpicked a selection of industry luminaries to verify the accuracy of the 1495 recipe. Spirit historians, writers and mixologists Dave Wondrich, Gary Regan, Dave Broom and Philip Duff have viewed the original manuscript at the British Library in London before travelling to Holland to visit the Jenever Museum in Schiedam to track the development, production and evolution of gin. The journey culminated at Villevert near Cognac, France where the EWG team have their wine distilling innovation centre.

VIDEO - Discovery of the earliest recorded recreational Gin recipe!

With only 100 bottles worldwide, GIN 1495 is an incredibly rare juniper based spirit. There will be 1 Limited Edition Gin 1495 pack available in an auction in Singapore and all of the proceeds of the auction will be going to charitable causes organized by the Rotary Club of Sentosa.

“By taking this recipe apart and refreshing it for our modern era, we will learn so much more about the long and circuitous journey the spirit has taken through the centuries.” said Jean-Sébastien. “GIN 1495 is the fundamental expression of our business, and represents the exceptional knowledge, quality and heritage elements of our company. We see the birth of gin, with a wine based spirit, in 1495 and its rebirth today in 2014. We love that idea of renaissance, of creating the future by understanding the past, of discovery, improvement and the creation of something excellent; this lies at the heart of all of our products.”

Renowned gin-ologist and Dutch speaker, Philip Duff, unearthed the 1495 recipe in an out-of-print Dutch-language history of Jenever. The original belongs to the Sloane Manuscripts, which passed into the collection of the British Museum in London after the death of Sir Hans Sloane in 1753, a wealthy merchant in East Netherlands. These manuscripts now stand in the archives of The British Library. “The 1495 recipe is not just the first chapter in a rich history of gin – this historic grape distillate-based recipe is part of the very foundation at the category”, said Philip Duff. “With an unrivalled passion and understanding of the grape and vine, I knew that the team at Villevert would authentically investigate this discovery and recreate the original recipe using traditional and genuine techniques and ingredients”.

EWG Spirits & Wine have produced a Limited Edition GIN 1495 pack consisting of the two variants; Verbātim, the 1495 original recipe, and Interprětātǐo, the modern interpretation.

With more than 400+ restaurants to choose from!
*Free delivery applicable for some restaurants*

Foodpanda Singapore - Recently, I discovered a very interesting website which provides fast, reliable and convenient food delivery in Singapore. As my sister Lora Christelle Lim decided to stay in Singapore for 2 days after our family Europe trip, we decided to order food delivery to my home and invited several friends over for dinner and drinks before she flew back to Sydney. It was also my friend Lemuel Lee who is a regular and happy customer of foodpanda who suggested that we order food delivery through the website. Such strong word of mouth recommendation! We decided to give foodpanda food delivery a try for the first time!

STEP 1: Simply key in your postcode address
and a list of restaurants will appear!

Ordering Food Delivery from www.foodpanda.sg - The foodpanda website is extremely user-friendly. Once the page was loaded, I simply had to key in my postal code address and voila!, a large list of different companies that do food delivery to my home were displayed. With more than 400+ restaurants listed on the foodpanda website, customers are spoilt for choices. Even if you did not know what to eat, the large variety of food choices will definitely whet your appetite!

After keying in my postal code address, I was surprised to find that I was able to order so many different types of cuisines such as Italian, Thai, Indian, American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Indonesian, Singapore's local fare, Fast food etc. Most importantly, I was so happy that so many of these restaurants also provided FREE DELIVERY! What a fantastic deal and offer! With just a click of the mouse away on my computer, food was quickly delivered to my home which was really convenient! You can also pre-order and decide what date and time you prefer the food to be delivered to your address.

STEP 2: Select which restaurant you wish to order food from
and click "Go to menu"

RESTAURANTS THAT DELIVER TO MY HOME ADDRESS - It was great to discover that so many high end and popular restaurants provided food delivery to my home and my favourites included Hard Rock Cafe, Spizza, Delifrance Bakery, Nandos Chicken, Swensen's, The Soup Spoon, Subway, Monster Japanese Curry, Shin Kushiya Japanese, PastaMania, 4Fingers Crispy Chicken, Nara Thai, California Pizza Kitchen, Sake Sushi, Old Hong Kong Cafe, Ming Fa Fishball etc.  There were just so many choices to choose from!

THE YANG's TRADITIONAL HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE - As my sister Lora was craving for Singapore's local food, we decided to order some Hainanese Chicken rice from The Yang's Traditional Hainanese Chicken Rice which arrived at my doorstep in less than 1 hour. Unbelievably fast delivery despite the fact being located in Serangoon area which was quite a distance away from my home at Tanglin Road in the city. I also liked the fact that the restaurant called almost immediately to re-confirm my order. The food was delivered up to my door and I paid cash to the delivery lady. The food was still warm and tasted absolutely delicious! All my friends and I enjoyed our chicken rice feast especially with the generous servings and fragrant Jasmine rice. They also provided sufficient disposable cutlery, serviettes, small packets of chilli sauce and sweet black sauce.

STEP 3: Choose what food items you wish to order from the food menu

STEP 4: Confirm Order - Select Date and Time (Pre-order is recommended)

SYDNEY - Snow Ski Trip to Perisher Valley in my Lamborghini Gallardo with bunny Snowy!

SYDNEY - Snow Ski Trip to Perisher Valley in my Lamborghini Gallardo - It was my first time going on a ski trip to Snowy Mountains in Australia and I was filled with excitement. Perisher Ski Resort is located 5.5-6 hours drive away from Sydney City. As we had to pass by Canberra city, we stopped by my favorite Koko Black to grab the famous ice chocolate drink before heading on. Initially, we booked a rental car with Europcar but when we arrived at the Canberra airport, the lady said the car was unavailable as the previous person who rented it did not return it. Perhaps it was a blessing in disguise, we had no choice but to drive my Lamborghini to Perisher Ski Resort which turned out surprisingly great! It did not skid at any point in time on the snowy roads. Did I also mention that my Lamborghini looked stunning in snow?

I love my yellow bumble bee!
A video on how my Lamborghini Spider opens its Soft Top

Lamborghini Gallardo Spider - My beautiful car is amazingly a 4WD so there was no need to put chains on the wheels. We woke up really early in the morning at 4am, had a quick breakfast and drove to Snowy Mountains from Canberra which took around 3.5 hours due to speed limits that we had to adhere to. After paying the car entry fees of AUD27 to Kosciuszko National Park, many cars stopped by the side of the road and people were busy fitting chains onto the wheels of their car in the freezing cold. I was so glad my car did not require any chains and we drove on slowly up the mountains.

Speed limit was extremely slow at a maximum of 40km/h as the roads were filled with fresh snow and there was Blizzard weather conditions. I was worried that my car would skid but it was surprisingly sturdy, firm and safe after I push the anti-skid button. Many people who drove passed my car gave me the thumbs up and took out their cameras to take pictures. We reached Perisher around 8am but it was already quite crowded. Guess everyone woke up really early to arrive this early! Everyone wanted to be the first to ski down fresh snow slopes! The place got really crowded in the afternoon...

Snowy Sees Snow - Upon reaching Perisher Valley, my mini-lop bunny Snowy gets to meet the real snow for the first time. There were strong winds and the large snowflakes were falling from the sky and I can't help but end up eating some snow in my mouth. Vision was blurred until I put on my snow goggles. The temperature was at -4 Degrees Celsius and despite wearing thermal wear and multiple layers of sweaters below my Ski Jacket, I was shivering in cold. Oh yes, instead of renting ski clothes I have spent approximately AUD300+ at Rebel Sports to buy my own Inner Thermal Wear, Ski Jacket, Ski Pants, Goggles, Beanie, Long Socks, Snow Boots etc. You can choose to rent ski clothings at Perisher if you prefer.

Perisher
Opening hours: 8am-5:30pm daily

Welcome to Perisher Guys!

Skiing at Perisher - I only bought my tickets at Perisher itself but if you wish to save money, do purchase in advance online at their website. I decided to rent the ski equipment at Perisher as well as it was more convenient and there was no way I could put the ski equipment in my Lamborghini. The renting of the Recreational Skis and Poles and Ski Boots cost AUD78 for 1 day. It was so fun to ski at Perisher and I enjoyed myself tremendously. The great thing about skiing is that after skiing for a while, my entire body was burning in heat and I was perspiring so I was not feeling cold anymore. I guess skiing is a great exercise and no wonder it is one of the most popular winter sports!

First Timers - If it is your first time skiing, do not worry. There are lessons available where skilled instructors will teach you how to ski patiently. It is very easy to learn how to ski and after a 1-2 hours lesson, you will definitely be able to ski on your own confidently. To find out more about taking the 2 hours lessons at Perisher, visit http://www.perisher.com.au/lessons-hire/2-hour-lessons.html

Below are more beautiful photos of my Lamborghini taken in the Snow :)

I marveled over the beautiful Winter landscapes. A Winter Wonderland :)

I highly recommend that you go on a Ski Trip this Winter in Australia as the experience is simply magical, memorable and enjoyable! A beautiful Winter experience :)
