New Zealand - Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Dunedin

New Zealand - We flew to Dunedin specially for half a day just to visit the Cadbury Chocolate Factory which was pretty interesting! Cadbury World is a must visit for chocolate lovers as you get to see how the chocolate is made, the history of Cadbury chocolates and taste a wide range of chocolates made fresh which melts in your mouth. Advance booking of the chocolate tour is necessary at http://www.cadburyworld.co.nz/ and it cost NZD20 for the full tour which last around 75 minutes. If you love chocolates as much as I do, this chocolate tasting experience will be truly memorable!

Before we arrived in Dunedin, we were stuck at Wellington airport for quite long due to bad weather conditions. Due to the overwhelming popularity of the movies "The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey" and great success of "The Lord of the Rings", we found an unusual person for company. It was Gollum!! The giant Gollum sculpture was huge at 42 foot long or 12 metres long and was hanging suspended from the roof over the dining area. It weigh 2500 pounds and was made by 18 sculptors, model-makers, painters and artists over many months. It depicts Gollum catching a fish and he looks pretty frightening if you look at him upclose. The Wellington airport has also been named "Middle Earth" to welcome visitors in an interesting manner.

New Zealand - Hobbiton Movie Set Tours in North Island

Photo: Bilbo Baggins' Home in the movie "The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey"
New Zealand - A visit to Hobbiton Movie Set Tours (http://www.hobbitontours.com/) makes the movies "The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey" and "The Lord of the Rings" come alive! Director Peter Jackson wanted the movie set to be perfect and created 37 hobbit holes in total in this picturesque private farmland located near Matamata in the North Island. The 2 hours guided tour from the Shire's Rest was interesting and it only cost NZD75/adult! It takes about 2 hours to drive from Auckland city.

New Zealand - Milford Sound in the South Islands

New Zealand - Milford Sound is one of the most famous tourist attraction in the South Island. It is 4.5 hours drive from Queenstown and it is highly recommended to book a bus tour as it can get pretty dangerous to drive in a rental car due to the winding and steep slopes. Milford Sound allows visitors to enjoy spectacular sights of beautiful cascading waterfalls and sightings of dolphins, seals and penguins. It is one of the wettest area in New Zealand and when it rains, you can see hundreds of waterfalls.

You can take a scenic cruise or a scenic flight across Milford Sound as it is a remarkable experience! Besides the cruise, you can consider trekking and walking trails in Fiordland National Park. More information at http://milford-sound.co.nz/

New Zealand - Ice Glacier Exploring & Scenic Flight at Mount Cook!

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful country I've ever visited with such beautiful and natural scenery as though I was looking at a postcard! The colorful landscape and peaceful tranquility reminded me of God's creativity in designing this earth and I am grateful to be able to see it with my own eyes. Among all the different parts of New Zealand, I would say Queenstown is the best! I stayed at the Sofitel Queenstown Hotel and Spa (http://www.sofitel.com/gb/hotel-5688-sofitel-queenstown-hotel-and-spa/index.shtml) which is a lavish and award winning hotel. Our hotel suite was spacious and the King bed was soft and comfortable. Service was extremely attentive and excellent!

We visited Mount Cook for their famous and unique Ice Glacier Explorer Tour visit their website (http://www.glacierexplorers.co.nz/) which is highly recommended! The Tasman Glacier is the largest floating ice glacier in the whole of New Zealand and is accessible by small boats. It costs NZD145 an adult but the experience was worth the cost! I managed to carry a real ice glacier and it is amazing how the ice glaciers remain on the still lakes despite the summer heat at 30 degrees celsius. The guide told us to place our fingers into the lake and mine went numb. The waters were icy cold at around 4 degrees celsius and he warned us not to fall off the boat unless we wanted to freeze to death. The tour lasted about 2.5 hours and a lot of time was spent walking from the main road to the secluded corner of the mountain where the ice glacier was located. Mount Cook is 3.5 hours drive from Queenstown. We rented a car and drove there by ourselves :) Comfortable shoes and warm clothings are a must as it gets chilly on the ice glacier lake.

On our way driving to Mount Cook, we spotted an eye-catching red cat plane and decided to do a scenic flight across Mount Cook. The strange thing is that instead of the pilot sitting in front, we ended up sitting in front of the pilot. It was a rather frightening experience as the plane was open top with no ceiling or glass over our heads. We felt vulnerable and scared initially but after a while, the fear was gone and we enjoyed the breath-taking scenic views around Mount Cook. New Zealand - Wai-O-Tapu Geothermal Wonderland

The Lady Knox Geyser - daily eruption at 10:15am
New Zealand - Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland ( http://www.waiotapu.co.nz/ ) is a beautiful Wonderland of Stunning Geothermal Activity. At a reasonable price of NZD $32.50/adult , you will be amazed by the astounding beauty of this active Volcanic area with even a real bubbling mud pool. It is located 27 kilometres (20 minutes drive) south of Rotorua and it takes about 4 hours to drive from Auckland city. As the area was huge, we took about 2 hours to walk the entire place. Wear comfortable shoes! It is truly a unique tourist attraction with a wide range of features that include:

New Zealand - Auckland City

New Zealand - Our first stop was in Auckland City where we had a lovely brunch at FISH restaurant located at Hilton Hotel with beautiful views of the waters on Princess Wharf. FISH restaurant is headed by celebrity chef Simon Gault. The food served was fresh, flavourful and the service staff were warm. It was a lovely dining experience overall!

Next, we headed to the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki which is the largest art institution in New Zealand, with a collection numbering over 15000 works. With amazing collection of different art pieces and works, we were greatly intrigued and fascinated. See http://www.aucklandartgallery.com/ for more info of the latest exhibitions and news.

We also went shopping in Auckland city which was a bustling and busy shopping area. When we wanted to buy from DFS Galleria, we were shocked to be informed that we are unable to claim tax unless we are flying out of New Zealand from Auckland. Furthermore, after paying for your items, you are only allowed to collect them after you passed immigration at the airport.  Therefore, we only bought Louis Vuitton items from Queenstown at the end of our trip instead.

We made dinner reservations at THE GRILL by Sean Connolly at SKYCITY Auckland where the food was simply amazing! There is free valet parking and the service was exceptional! The award winning restaurant was the Best New Restaurant of 2012 and the Supreme Winner Restaurant of the year. We ordered the Steak Tartare which was prepared at our table and it tasted heavenly! We also had the slow roasted lamb shoulder, red wine vinegar, and star anise gravy which we could not finish as the portion was huge!

At the end of the night, we checked into beautiful Sofitel Auckland Viaduct Harbour where we had a spacious hotel suite to rest for the night. It is a beautiful modern hotel and contemporary furnishings. Magnifique! The great location of the hotel near SKYCITY Auckland allowed us to see the changing colours of the Auckland Tower!
