Top Places of Interest to Visit in Greece Athens

During my Singapore Airlines flying days, I did manage to see The Acropolis with some of my colleagues. But honestly, it feels completely different to be traveling to a beautiful place with "strangers" as compared to your loved ones. Also, I did not manage to have enough time to visit Santorini and Myokonos while I was working for Singapore Airlines. Hence, I told myself that once, I find my Mr Right guy, I will go visit Athens again.

So here are the details of my trip

I usually use AGODA APP (www.Agoda.com) to book all my hotels.

Dynasta Central Suites Athens
15-19 Praxitelous Athens Greece 10562
from Agoda website

I booked this place called Dynasta Central Suites at Praxitelous. It is a spacious service apartment styled hotel room found under Agoda Homes. This place is walking distance to The Acropolis and the main city center of the whole Athens. I was very happy with this place when I walked into it. I usually choose only hotels that is rated 9.5 stars reviews and above. This was probably 9.8 stars when I booked it. Its the highest reviewed one and probably also the newest one.

I like to stay in newly renovated places so that the air smells fresher and also because I am a little germ phobic. I like things to be new and everything to be very clean, and also I'm very sensitive to smell. Therefore, I prefer to stay at good and top hotels and homes. Not to forget, that it has to be middle of town too as convenience is very important when you visit a country. It is not easy to rent a car and drive around in a city center as parking can be difficult and traffic is heavy too. To truly experience a new city, you must WALK in order to enjoy the true surroundings and indulge in the surroundings like a local walking on foot.

DINNER AT MELILOTOS
Kalamiotou 19, Monastiraki, Athens 105 60, Greece
@Melilotos_Restaurant

I landed into Athens at night around dinner time. The first thing we did after checking into Dynasta Central Suites was to find a good Greek Dinner place. We just walked down stairs and in about 2 minutes we saw the main street. There are lots of restaurants around. This is a small but yet cosy family owned restaurant. They cook simple but traditional Greek food. The price of the food here is really reasonable. It ranges from 10 to 20 euros a dish.

Traditional Greek Salad

Grilled Octopus with Lemon

Squid Ink Pasta

Traditional Setting Inside. Modern and Sleek.

Dinner was really good. The Greek food uses a lot of Olive Oil.

After dinner, we decided to go walk around to explore our hotel surrounding area. Thankfully, we are staying just walking distance from The Acropolis. Well, the Acropolis is the main reason we visit Athens in the first place.

This is how Athens' streets look like in the night..

The Church of Panagia Kapnikarea or just Kapnikarea is a Greek Orthodox church and one of the oldest churches in Athens.

The Acropolis from BELOW at NIGHT..

It was getting late, so after walking around the Athens streets to get our bearings. We decided to go back to the Dynasta Central Suites to rest so that we can start our day early the next day.

DAY 2

Harvest Coffee & Wine
Aiolou 64 &, Evripidou, Athina 105 60, Greece

Harvest Coffee and Wine - The setting inside feels quite English. Quite a pretty place. Colourful and nicely decorated with wine bottles for their counter area. They served delicious eggs with salmon for breakfast and my boy had some muesli with yogurt and fruit. How healthy doc!

Guards Changing at the City Center
Omonoia Square

Omonoia Square is a central square in Athens. Forming the centre of Omonoia, It marks the northern corner of the downtown area defined by the city plans of the 19th century, and is one of the city's principal traffic hubs. It is served by Omonoia train station.

After breakfast, we went to walk around, and we were lucky enough to see a guard changing ceremony in at the Omonoia Square.

Walking to the Acropolis

The Acropolis is on the top of a hill, so we basically had to keep walking upwards. This is how the streets look like, there's lots of street art and graffiti around on their buildings, streets and walls. I think the Greek people are really artistic. Some may call it vandalism, but I like to think its really cool art.

The Acropolis & Slopes
Athen Greece
Athens 105 58, Greece

The Athenian Acropolis is the ancient high city of Athens, a prominent plateaued rock perched high above the modern city with commanding views and an amazing array of ancient architecture, mostly from the Classical period of Ancient Greece, the most famous of which is the Parthenon. A visit to Athens is not complete without visiting the Acropolis - hundreds of tourists each day accordingly make the pilgrimage.

How much is The Acropolis Entrance Tickets?

The cost of entrance to the Acropolis is about 20 euros and is good for the other sites in the area including the ancient agora, theatre of Dionysos, Kerameikos, Roman Agora, Tower of the Winds and the Temple of Olympian Zeus and is supposedly good for a week. You can also buy individual tickets to these other sites.

Where is the Acropolis Entrance?

The entrance to the Acropolis is off Theorias St. From the Akropoli metro stop and New Acropolis Museum, walk west along Dionysiou Areopagitou Street and take the first right on to Theorias; from the Thissio metro stop west of Monastiraki, walk west to Apostolou Pavlou St, turn left on it, and walk south to turn left on Theorias. From Plaka, you can walk south up steep Mnisikleous St as far as you can go and turn right on Theorias.

How much time is needed to visit The Acropolis?

The complete tour takes about 1h 30 minutes, You can visit Acropolis and museum in 4 hours and the archeological museum 2 hours, but you will be more tired when you visit in the hot sun during the summer hot temperatures. The best time to visit would be during autumn and spring time. Winter may be a little bit cold, but ticket prices would be slightly cheaper during winter as well.

The Parthenon at The Acropolis

What is the difference between The Acropolis and The Parthenon?

The Parthenon is the most famous monument on top of that rock. The Acropolis, a rocky hill in the centre of Athens. On its flat top, three temples: the Parthenon, the Erechtheum and the temple of Athena Nike. The name Acropolis derives from the Greek words AKRO (meaning peak, top) and POLIS (meaning city).

It is really windy at the top of the hill. Do wear comfortable shoes as you need to walk upwards a lot.

What is the Acropolis used for? What is its Purpose? What does it serve as?

The Acropolis is the crowning jewel of Athens and one of the most important cultural sites in the world. This incredible, sprawling complex was the birthplace of democracy and the most important center of ancient Greece.

View of Theatre of Dionysus from The Slopes of The Acropolis
The Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus is a major theatre in Athens, considered to be the world's first theatre, built at the foot of the Athenian Acropolis.

How was the Acropolis destroyed?

The Acropolis was captured and destroyed by the Persians 10 years later (in 480 B.C.). Although the Athenians and other Greeks were eventually victorious over their eastern enemies, the Acropolis lay in ruins. Athens was invaded and partially destroyed by the Heruli from northern Europe.

Ancient Buildings

On the Acropolis

  • The Parthenon— The largest temple on the Acropolis, originally dedicated to the goddess of
the city, Athena, later converted to a church and then a mosque. Built between 447 and 438 BCE at the height of the Classical period. Original home to what some refer to as the "Elgin Marbles", now in London's British Museum.
  • The Temple of Athena Nike— First temple on the Acropolis to be built in the Ionic style, and one of the few exemplars of an amphiprostyle temple in all of Greece: what made it truly unique was the unit by which it was planned, which turns out to be the Egyptian foot of 300 mm.
  • The Erectheion— Dedicated to the worship of the two principal gods of Attica, Athena and Poseidon-Erechtheus.
  • The Propylea— The ancient monumental gateway to the Acropolis.

On the South Side

  • The Odeon of Herodes Atticus: This ancient theatre is still used today for concerts and plays.
  • The Theatre of Dionysis

LUNCH AT COLLAGE
 Kapnikareas 3, Athina 105 63, Greece

Its time for lunch! We walked into this modern looking restaurant, it is huge and spacious and it has a very nice wine collection. It has a very colourful bar counter too. Ambience was perfect. Food was served like as if it was like fine dining, as the Cod Fish I had was really pretty. Well done for their food plating and decorations.

I wanted to try another Greek Salad again, because I really loved the one I had the night before.

Look at how pretty my COD FISH looks. It even has caviar on my spaghetti.

Roman Agora of Athens
Polignotou 3, Athina 105 55, Greece

The Roman Agora is located to the north of the Acropolis and to the east of the Ancient Agora.

Public life in the city of Athens was concentrated in and around the Agora, the market, a large rectangular shaded with plane trees, willows and poplars, ornamented with fountains, statues and votive offerings, surrounded by porticos where the merchants and sellers sold all sorts of goods and provisions. There were also the bankers of the time, the hairdressers, the perfumers, men of business, men of letters, artists and artisans, politicians, orators, philosophers, who walked and discussed on all issues of life and the questions of the day.

Tower of the Winds

Aiolou, Athina 105 55, Greece

The Tower of the Winds or the Horologion of Andronikos Kyrrhestes is an octagonal Pentelic marble clocktower in the Roman Agora in Athens that functioned as a horologion or "timepiece". It is considered the world's first meteorological station. Unofficially, the monument is also called Aerides, which means Winds.

TRAVEL - Sara Shantelle Lim Travels to Melbourne Australia on Singapore Airlines Business Class - To visit the Melbourne's Instagram worthy Pink Lake and the 12 Apostles.

TRAVEL - Sara Shantelle Lim Travels to Melbourne Australia
Singapore Airlines Business Class
Melbourne's Instagram worthy Pink Lake and the 12 Apostles

I love Singapore Airlines. I used to be a "Singapore Girl" too. The famous signature kebaya is really body hugging and very beautiful.

As usual, service was excellent.

Pink Salt Lake in Melbourne Australia Westgate Park

When I first heard that there was a Pink colour lake in Australia, I went crazy! As my first thought was that it is like a "UNICORN PINK LAKE!". I was so excited to plan my visit and take a photo with this unique pink lake!

Why is the Lake PINK?

So apparently, the water turns pink due to the red pigment that is produced during the warmer months, from the perfect mix of high temperatures, sunlight and low rainfall. It is not always Pink, it will turn back to its usual blue during autumn. Some people think that, it is due to the high salinity combined with the presence if a salt loving algae known as Dunaliella salina that makes the lake turn pink. This particular bacteria is known as halobacteria. No one is really 100% sure why the lake turns Pink yet. I managed to capture this Pink Lake phenomenon around May.

Is it DANGEROUS to Touch the Pink Lake water?

Well honestly, there are no known danger facts of it yet. It is known as a Pink Slime, a bacteria that is just a fungus. But personally, I did not dare to go near or touch it. As no the is truly sure about what causes this phenomenon yet, its all just speculations. Another reason I did not dare go too close to the waters as I was unable to see under the waters and there were also no barriers between the Park and Pink Lake. Who knows what lies beneath? Although, based on what I have researched online, it seems to say that there is nothing dangerous living in the waters. I quickly snapped a picture and moved away from the water area. Maybe, I was just being paranoid as I watched too many Final Destination Movies.

If you google Australia Pink Lake, you can see different photos of it. It has different shades of Pink, depending on the temperature and weather when you visit the place. It is really beautiful. There is another Pink Lake called Lake Hillier in Australia. But the one I visited was the one at Westgate Park, just below their Melbourne highway. This was the highway that I took to get to the 12 apostles.

Air Travel is the best way to view The Lake Hillier as this lake is surrounded by a rim of sand and a dense woodland or eucalyptus trees.

The Twelve Apostles

The Twelve Apostles is located off the shore of Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. I drove the long beautiful great ocean road from Melbourne city center. It was a really fun road trip! But do not drive too fast, as if you go off road, your car will basically fly off the cliff and go straight into the ocean! You can also check out my sister Lora Christelle Lim's blog post as she bought her yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder supercar from Melbourne and drove to the Twelve Apostles on her way back to Sydney.

The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks. Seven of the original eight Apostles remain standing, after one collapsed in July 2005. It is a really popular tourist destination for people who loves the ocean and scenic holidays.

Why is the Twelve Apostles called the Twelve Apostles?

It is not really known why these 7 remaining limestones are called the Twelves Apostles, they probably started with 12 limestones at the beginning, before mother nature eroded them and they fell apart and away. The original name was The Sow and Piglets. The sow was the Mutton Bird Island, which is situated at the Loch Ard Gorge, and her Piglets were the 12 Apostles. When you visit the 12 Apostles, there are little little stops in between where you will see other beautiful sites like the Loch Ard Gorge, Princeton Wetlands Boardwalk, Gibson Steps, The Grotto, London Bridge, The Arch, and many more. They even have a helicoptor, which you can take to view the entire zone from above.

Aesthetics - Sara Shantelle Lim goes for LIFTERA Hifu Treatment at EHA Clinic with Doctor Elias Tam, Fillers & Botox Treatment to remove Wrinkles.

Aesthetics - Sara Shantelle Lim
LIFTERA HIFU Treatment
EHA Clinic with Doctor Elias Tam
Non-evasive Face Lift & Contouring

(After my Liftera Hifu Treatment - Tighter and Firmer Cheeks!)

So every girl wants to have that perfect oval face, the chiseled look. I used to go for Botox injections to make my jaw line more defined and smaller. But now, with the latest technology, you can make your cheeks and jaw line smaller by a lifting process called LIFTERA Hifu

Well, you know I'm very scared of the slightest pain, so I actually requested for some numbing cream. But from what I heard, most people probably don't need to use this.

Numbing Cream & Wait

What is Liftera HIFU?

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, that is used for Face Lifting and Body Contouring.

Why do Liftera?

Liftera Lifting is A non-invasive lifting and contouring treatment for the face, neck area and body. It’s the first Liftera™ treatment, using the original theory of Thermal Diffusion Treatment (TDT ™) Technology. The treatment theory is able to get various types of heat energy into the skin more effectively, and it is effective for strengthening of the skin and body such as face lifting, skin tightening, body shaping and line correction. Unlike conventional lifting techniques, Liftera Lifting is much lesser painful for the patient, with intuitive design and immediate results, as well as better results in 2 months.

Face Lifting and Sculpting

Dermal layer and SMAS layer, which is the target depth in the skin, can be applied with heating energy in two ways technique of micro-focusing and diffusion to give thermal effect to all layers of the skin. Strong thermal energy causes contraction and neo-collagenesis in the skin.

Body Contouring and Tightening

TDT ™ (Thermal Diffusion Treatment) Technology is used to effectively accumulate diffused thermal energy at three depths of subcutaneous fat layer. Subcutaneous fat tissue that is weak in heat, is destroyed and decreased and absorbed by large amount of macrophages.

What is TDT TM ?

The applicator of Liftera provide a procedure on curved area of the skin surface by moving technique. Unlike general HIFU procedure, Liftera treatment irradiate at a certain depth in the skin by using at 10 Hz as faster velocity of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound without any damage of epidermis. It is the latest anti-aging technology to stimulate collagen by giving strong heat effect to dermal collagen fiber.

Efficacy

Liftera transducer is not only giving facial result, but also gives the best efficacy of dramatic body tightening. In case of temperature, when you irradiate subcutaneous fat area, Liftera transducer technology can irradiate above 65 °C thermal energy, therefore it can give good thermal effect on the subcutaneous fat area

Comfortability

Liftera can generate stable and precise Peak Power by integral applicator and special designed digital engine. If the Peak Power is too low, the efficacy is insignificant, and if it is too high, it can damage to surrounding tissues. Liftera generate stable and precise Peak Power to increase the efficacy in the tissue by the thermal energy for the pain relief of the patient

Sara Shantelle Lim doing LIFTERA HIFU Video

So this is how the LIFTERA HIFU Machine works on my face. Its like a holding device that glide around my face and neck area. It basically makes my cheeks lift up and become firmer. Then if you want to remove the turkey neck, you can do this on your neck area. It has a mild numbing and weird sensation. It is quite bearable. Not exceptionally painful. But definitely you will feel a slight discomfort. That's when you know that this treatment is working. You can ask for a higher power if you feel nothing, or a lower power if it is too painful for you.

Knowing me, I went for the mildest power.

You can see from this video that my other side of the cheeks is already lifted and smaller than the cheeks that Doctor Tam is currently working on. It has INSTANT AMAZING Results!

Sara Shantelle Lim + Doctor Elias Tam

I've been going to Doctor Elias Tam for over 6-8 years, I've lost count. I think it is important that you find a doctor that you are comfortable with. My friends and family have all been going to him as they have seen the results he has done for me. It is really impressive.

Sara Shantelle Lim Forehead Filler to Remove Wrinkles

As you can see from the video, after putting the numbing cream, it does not hurt very much. Its very bearable. Doctor Tam, have quite a few choices for you. You can ask for Xeomin.

The Eye Fillers Treatment costs around SGD$800.

Dining - Sara Shantelle Lim goes to NOX - Dining in the Dark

Dining - Sara Shantelle Lim goes to NOX
 Dining in the Dark
269 Beach Rd, Singapore 199546

I love it when, my husband gives me a surprise. Once in a while, he will plan a random date and bring me around Singapore to try the different places and dishes for dinner. This time round, he drove me somewhere near Arab Street, and I immediately saw NOX signboard by the road side, and guessed that this was the place he was going to take me to. I was RIGHT! I haven't been here before, although I've heard about it from friends before.

Who knew that dining in complete darkness could be fun?

The moment we walked into level 1, main entrance, you will see modern chairs and furnishings, mostly in black inside. It has a warm light setting and it is easy to the eyes. They also have a gorgeous bar set up at the end of the room, perfect for chilling and waiting for the waiter to bring us to our dining table up stairs.

Well, once you walk into the place with your reservations, their friendly waiter will explain to you, how you are suppose to eat in the dark, before they bring you to their official NOX dining area, whereby you literally eat in COMPLETE DARKNESS. You cannot even see your hands in front of you. But before you do that, you MUST remove all digital items from your body, like your mobile phones, your digital watch which has light, etc. NO LIGHT is allowed in their dark dining room. They have some lockers situated at the level 1 wait area, whereby you can lock up your belongings.

Next they will explain to you, how you should be eating your food. Basically, there are 12 dishes that you would try, 4 sets of appetizers, 4 sets of mains, and 4 sets of desserts. All 4 appetizers would be served at the same time, placed in a DIAMOND shaped tray. You are to feel your food, and eat them from a clockwise direction from the bottom dish first. The fun part of this whole experience is that you and your partner can actually try to guess what you are eating. At the end of the whole dining experience, when you are brought back down to their waiting area, the waiter would show you photos from their IPAD on what you are eaten upstairs in their dark room.

WINE & DINE AWARDS

It was a really fun and one of a kind experience for me. The good thing about this place is that they have opened up a restaurant whereby, the disabled people who cannot see are able to work there. Apparently, every single wait staff at the upstairs DARK room are people who can't see. They really used their sense of hearing abilities to bring you and guide you to your seats. They are really good at what they do, and their service upstairs was excellent too. 2 thumbs up for this place!

Highly recommended to friends and tourist who wants to try something different and exciting for your dining experience. This place has also won a lot of awards! Check it out~
