Melbourne's Instagram worthy Pink Lake and the 12 Apostles

I love Singapore Airlines. I used to be a "Singapore Girl" too. The famous signature kebaya is really body hugging and very beautiful.

As usual, service was excellent.

Pink Salt Lake in Melbourne Australia Westgate Park

When I first heard that there was a Pink colour lake in Australia, I went crazy! As my first thought was that it is like a "UNICORN PINK LAKE!". I was so excited to plan my visit and take a photo with this unique pink lake!

Why is the Lake PINK?

So apparently, the water turns pink due to the red pigment that is produced during the warmer months, from the perfect mix of high temperatures, sunlight and low rainfall. It is not always Pink, it will turn back to its usual blue during autumn. Some people think that, it is due to the high salinity combined with the presence if a salt loving algae known as Dunaliella salina that makes the lake turn pink. This particular bacteria is known as halobacteria. No one is really 100% sure why the lake turns Pink yet. I managed to capture this Pink Lake phenomenon around May.

Is it DANGEROUS to Touch the Pink Lake water?

Well honestly, there are no known danger facts of it yet. It is known as a Pink Slime, a bacteria that is just a fungus. But personally, I did not dare to go near or touch it. As no the is truly sure about what causes this phenomenon yet, its all just speculations. Another reason I did not dare go too close to the waters as I was unable to see under the waters and there were also no barriers between the Park and Pink Lake. Who knows what lies beneath? Although, based on what I have researched online, it seems to say that there is nothing dangerous living in the waters. I quickly snapped a picture and moved away from the water area. Maybe, I was just being paranoid as I watched too many Final Destination Movies.

If you google Australia Pink Lake, you can see different photos of it. It has different shades of Pink, depending on the temperature and weather when you visit the place. It is really beautiful. There is another Pink Lake called Lake Hillier in Australia. But the one I visited was the one at Westgate Park, just below their Melbourne highway. This was the highway that I took to get to the 12 apostles.

Air Travel is the best way to view The Lake Hillier as this lake is surrounded by a rim of sand and a dense woodland or eucalyptus trees.

The Twelve Apostles

The Twelve Apostles is located off the shore of Port Campbell National Park, by the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. I drove the long beautiful great ocean road from Melbourne city center. It was a really fun road trip! But do not drive too fast, as if you go off road, your car will basically fly off the cliff and go straight into the ocean! You can also check out my sister Lora Christelle Lim's blog post as she bought her yellow Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder supercar from Melbourne and drove to the Twelve Apostles on her way back to Sydney.

The Twelve Apostles is a collection of limestone stacks. Seven of the original eight Apostles remain standing, after one collapsed in July 2005. It is a really popular tourist destination for people who loves the ocean and scenic holidays.

Why is the Twelve Apostles called the Twelve Apostles?

It is not really known why these 7 remaining limestones are called the Twelves Apostles, they probably started with 12 limestones at the beginning, before mother nature eroded them and they fell apart and away. The original name was The Sow and Piglets. The sow was the Mutton Bird Island, which is situated at the Loch Ard Gorge, and her Piglets were the 12 Apostles. When you visit the 12 Apostles, there are little little stops in between where you will see other beautiful sites like the Loch Ard Gorge, Princeton Wetlands Boardwalk, Gibson Steps, The Grotto, London Bridge, The Arch, and many more. They even have a helicoptor, which you can take to view the entire zone from above.

Melbourne - Driving to the Great Ocean Road - The Twelve Apostles

Melbourne - Driving to the Great Ocean Road - The Twelve Apostles - It was my first time heading to the famous Great Ocean Road which is one of the World's most scenic coastal drives which stretches 243 km long along the south eastern coast of Australia. Most importantly, most people travel this route to visit the famous and spectacular 12 Apostles.

The Twelve Apostles - The visitor centre is located on the corner of Booringa Road and Great Ocean Road in Princetown 3269 and part of Port Campbell National Park. This tourist attraction has more than 1.2 million visitors annually and it is not a surprise as the scenic view was breath-taking. The beautiful rock formations and crashing waves create a spectacular sight and I was swept away immediately.

Below are more photos taken at the 12 Apostles which are "ancient in design & dynamic in form"!

It was such a beautiful scenic coastal drive along the Great Ocean Road with my excellent ride - The Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder... Below are some more photos with my new ride!!!
