Extreme Sport - Oslob Whale Sharks Watching + Canyoneering & Cliff Jumping (PART 3)

It is the time of the year to bask under the sun again. Most people do not know this, but I really love beach sports and activities. I love paragliding, jet skiing, and even exciting banana boat rides.

On this particular Cebu Philippines holiday, I did all of those activities including island hopping and snorkeling. I even swam side by side with huge Whale Sharks! This holiday was a short 5 days trip, but I did plenty! The funniest thing was that, I thought I booked a Canoeing trip on one of the days but it turned out to be CANYONING (Canyoneering) - which is a highly extreme sport, which involves climbing through the dense jungle and mountain with no safety ropes at all. If you fall, you may die. Not only did I climb the mountain rocks and waterfalls, I also actually cliff jumped multiple deep waterfalls. It was a huge mistake in not reading and booking my trip properly, but it was highly memorable. The videos are a must watch!

If you like EXTREME SPORTS - this blog post and trip is going to excite and intrigue you.

As usual, I took Singapore Airlines to Cebu, Philippines. I really love Singapore Airlines as they have the best service and most spacious and comfortable business class seats. The irony is that I thought that I had booked a business class ticket on Singapore Airlines, but in the end, I was a little disappointed when I went onto the plane and realised that it was a SILKAir plane. I paid SGD$1900 for this business class ticket. But after speaking to the passenger beside me on the business class, I learnt that she had purchased her ticket at a discounted price is only SGD$500. Moral of the story, do not impulse purchase air tickets, always do a little research first. Buying at different time or dates can result in paying 4 times for the same air ticket.

Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu

This is Movenpick Cebu Hotel lobby where it has a very open concept and very windy. They provide a welcome drink upon arrival. Their furniture are mostly blue and green colours to compliment the sea and beach front. They also have some intervals of complimentary snacks like popcorn and drinks at their lobby which all guests can enjoy.

Taste their signature free flow of popcorn at their lobby. You can also drizzle delicious mik chocolate that they provide.

After checking into our Hotel Suite, we were pleased that the Suite Room comes with a living room, a bedroom and a spacious toilet with a huge bath tub.

After changing into a casual beach wear, we decided to have lunch at the Hotel Lobby. They serve pretty good pizza and fresh fruit juices. While eating in front of the poolside, we played with their POOL Table, Darts and even a XBOX, all complimentary for hotel guests.

Movenpick Cebu Hotel Pool

The Movenpick Hotel poolside was beautiful and they played nice dance music for the pool party.

Next, I quickly went to check out the beach front. Just a few more steps down from their poolside, the hotel placed a number of beach chairs for their guests to relax on their lush green grass just before the sand area of the beach.

Of course I chose to sit on a chair that was nearest to the sea water. Notice there is a little island in the middle front of the water? It is where the hotel made a man-made floating restaurant connected to their beach front.

There is a little wooden walk way to the island Restaurant. They have fresh BBQ seafood. They even serve ostrich meat! I dare you to try it!

I paid SGD$450++ a night for their room, but I think you can get their rooms at only SGD$200+ a night on off peak seasons.

Here's a picture of their recent prices..

Stay tuned for Part 2!!

TRAVEL - SPAIN (Part 4)
Sara Shantelle Lim goes to Spain on Singapore Airlines Business Class 1 Month Trip
Bull Fighting Ring & Trekking at Donana Nature Spain

BullFighting in Spain

We always see a man with a red cloth on television with a bull. Little did I know that this tradition and show still exist till today. I do find it very cruel, hence, I only went to this place to visit the museum, but not watch the bullfighting show itself.

Every year, approximately 250,000 bulls are killed in bullfights. The animals are stabbed multiple times before suffering slow, agonizing deaths in front of an audience, including children. Animal cruelty is not entertainment. You can help by not attending bullfights.

The conclusion of a Spanish bullfight is almost always the same: The matador plunges his or her sword between the bull's shoulders, puncturing the animal's heart and killing it. Next, a team of mules or horses drags the dead animal out of the ring.

Bullfighting is a traditional Latin American spectacle in which bulls bred to fight are tortured by armed men on horseback, then killed by a matador. Starved, beaten, isolated, and drugged before the “fight,” the bull is so debilitated that he cannot defend himself.

If estocada is not successful, the matador must then perform a descabello and cut the bull's spinal cord with a second sword called verdugo, to kill it instantly and spare the animal pain. Although the matador's final blow is usually fatal, it may take the bull some time to die.

Trekking at Donana Nature Spain

Okay, if you like nature and animals, I think its better that we go for a trekking session, instead of watching a bull fight. This way, we can maintain peace in this world.

Doñana National Park is in southern Spain. It’s known for its wetlands, migratory birds, pine forests and shifting coastal dunes. In the park, Palacio del Acebron is a 20th-century palace, home to the national park visitor center. Nearby, El Rocío Hermitage is a religious sanctuary dating from the 13th century. On the coast, Playa de Matalascañas has a seafront promenade lined with bars and eateries.

Doñana National Park is a natural reserve in Andalusia, southern Spain, in the provinces of Huelva (most of its territory), Cádiz and Seville. It covers 543 km2 (209.65 sq mi), of which 135 km2 (52.12 sq mi) are a protected area.

The park is an area of marshes, shallow streams, and sand dunes in Las Marismas, the delta where the Guadalquivir River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. It was established as a nature reserve in 1969 when the World Wildlife Fund joined with the Spanish government and purchased a section of marshes to protect it.

The eco-system has been under constant threat by the draining of the marshes, the use of river water to boost agricultural production by irrigating land along the coast, water pollution by upriver mining, and the expansion of tourist facilities. It is named after Doña Ana de Silva y Mendoza wife of the seventh Duke of Medina-Sidonia.
